Sustainable feeding practices can lead to innovative poultry farming systems, aligning with circular economy principles and addressing the challenges posed by climate change and resource scarcity in the Mediterranean region.

In this context, SUSTAvianFEED developed sustainable nutritional formulas that incorporate insects, notably the black soldier fly, as alternative protein sources in poultry feed. This approach aims to reduce reliance on traditional feed components like imported soybean meal, thereby promoting environmental sustainability and supporting local economies.

The SUSTAvianFEED project has engaged Turkey, Spain, Italy, and Tunisia in a collaborative effort to enhance sustainable poultry farming practices. Each country tailored its approach to local conditions, resulting in diverse circular economy business models. The outcomes are presented in four comprehensive factsheets that detail the specific contexts, poultry breeds utilized, and the results obtained from each study.

These factsheets serve as valuable resources for stakeholders interested in adopting sustainable feeding practices tailored to specific regional contexts, thereby promoting a more resilient and eco-friendly poultry industry.
